My 3rd car, at about 21years old was a 1969 COPO Chevelle. Had a 427 435 hp motor with a four speed. Look like an SS Chevelle without the markings. At that age and the time, I did not know what I had. Found out years later, still had the VIN, and then found out what I had

I was really stupid and could name a couple but the one I'd really like to have back was my 72 grand torino sport, factory fastback with buckets, console and hood scoop. Pulled the 351C 2bbl and dropped in a 69 428cj/c6. With 3:1 rear it would squat until about 15mph then light up the right rear. 13.46 at 104mph in the quarter, that was fast back then!
(would also press you into the seat when you floored it at 100mph on the highway) (Edit: sold for $500 in 84) Or, my 65 notch mustang I beat the inner shock towers out to fit a 351C/fmx, was faster bogging with the 3.50 gear then when I put in the 3.91's (and lincoln locker) out of a pickup and smoked them continually. (Edit: traded in 82) Damn, I'm depressed now! LOL Last edited by goinbroke2; 12-10-2012 at 10:51 PM. Reason: Forgot to add what I did with them |

I've owned many cars over the years and some of them hold a special place in my heart. I have pictures of some of them on my facebook page in the photo section. My first car was a '59 Ford Galaxie 2dr hdtp. Next came a '63 Ford Galaxie 500 with a 406, then I put in a 427.
There would actually be two that I would want back though. First choice would be my '65 Chevelle 2dr station wagon. I built it up with a 327, 4-spd, and a 4.10 12-bolt posi rearend. Wound up trading it for a Chevy van when I started my carpet installation business. The other one I would want back would be my '71 LT-1 Corvette T-top. It was steel cities grey in color. Sold it because I didn't get to drive it as much as I wanted. I was too busy between my business, teching at three dragstrips and traveling with NHRA. Travis |

In high school had a 69 chevelle ss 396/325 4 spd also 70 corvette 454 4 spd. Both good cars had a lot of fun with both still wish I keep them. But back then you always had to sell one to get money to buy and other.

May surprise my fellow Mopar enthusiasts and while my 69 Dart Swinger 340 is a close second I had a 67 SS396 (325) Chevelle that I simply loved. Still love the simple lines of the 67 Chevelle.

I had the first '63 stingray to hit the streets in SoCal. $4848.00 out the door. Got it in Oct of '62. Best time was 12.90 @ 106 which was quicker than the national record at that time. I got to race Gas Rhonda in the first Cobra to hit the track in early '63. I could not beat that cobra. Traded it in after a year for a '64 mopar. Wanted to go faster but couldn't afford to keep up with the factory guys.

Great topic!
For me it was a 1970 Chevelle I had when I was in my early 20's, After building a 650hp oval port 454, M 21, Centerforce clutch, I drove it down the street with open headers to the muffler shop. When the car was done I idled it out onto the street, revved her up, dumped the clutch and started rowing the gears. About the time I slammed it in 3rd, the valve guide hung a valve, making noises like it was coming UN-hinged. I pushed in the clutch and shut the key off! Steering wheel locked! Skidding, sliding, I went off the street and drove right between my buddies body shop and his huge sign! I'm sure if it happened to me to day I would have a heart attack. Heart rate was well past the red line! This was a fun car, it was the reason I bought my first open car trailer. I broke the darn thing every time I took it to the track. I had a wrecking yard worth of broken 4 speeds, twisted drive shafts, you name it. I learn a lot and sold it for a real race car....... only problem is it started this racing bug that I have yet to get rid of! Last edited by Tom Nolan; 12-11-2012 at 12:32 PM. Reason: spelling |
