Everybody calm down. After knowing Ron for more than 20 years I feel I can say I'm sure he ment nothing vicious with regard to John Force. His point is well taken however. John Force's comments were made before his terrible crash and I have to admit I found myself thinking the same thing Ron questioned. That said, I was lucky enough to talk to John for about 10 minutes at the Gators many years ago and he told me he likes to watch us (S/SS) race but gets very little chance to do so. I find it hard to believe anyone on this forum would not wish John and his whole family the best and a quick recovery. We all know what a trying season it has been for his team.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Force family and team at this very difficult time.

I am going to say this about the postings that took place recently. First, for all of you individuals out there that read the original post, and then presumed I was making an attempt to make fun of this situation, you are an absolute idiot and should be ashamed of yourself. Re read the original post and you will realize that I was centering on the ommision of our categories as what to do when the cars are not on the strip. Nothing derogatory was stated against John Force. As I sat down to resume watching the race after posting the original thread, then I saw the accident. Just so you know, I like John Force more than the other FC drivers, and I was sincerely concerned about him. After a commercial came on I revisited this site to say my concern was there for his safety. The first thing I read is a statement from Tim H and his stupid comment. As you can see by my following post I found it neither amusing or needed.
Alan Roehrich, FED387, Chris DeGideo, and Jim Wahl, you are correct. As for you Mr. North, your timing is off. My second post occured at 9:14 after seeing the accident and then waiting to see if he was OK on TV, yours followed at 11:03 My sincere concern and prayers go out to the Force family. Ron Ortiz

No, but I hear that's where the famous jerky comes from.
![]() I didn't think Ron knew about Force being injured, that's why I phrased my post that way. While I disagree with Ron, on many things, I did not think him capable of being the type that would make that post if he had known.

It should be remembered that Force did come up the hard way, but not through the sportsman ranks as some did. He was a match racer who struggled for decades. I seriously doubt Force had any intentions of slighting the sportsman racers. Force likes and respects most everyone, and counts several sportsman racers among his friends. The comment being spoken of is nothing more than a sound bite.

and I wonder if Vandergriff would be able to do the PRO thing if it weren't for the sportsman racers who bought Hedman Husler products from his family's business for all those years. He and brother Chris have been able to afford all the racing they have done due to a prosperous business supported by sportsman racers. JMT>

quote: posted by Bruce Noland "As the story goes - about ten years ago. A collection "bucket" for an injured Sportsman racer was placed near John Force's pit at Pomona. Force noticed the "bucket" and asked his staff what it was doing there - they told him the story. His response... Get rid of the collection bucket and let the Sportsman racers take care of themselves."
I don't know about "As the story goes" but I have to come to John Force's defense in this area. I know all of you have heard about the Kaylee Greer accident in the junior dragster back the end of March. John and Ashley both sent a substanial donation to her and many other gifts. They also personally called the hospital and spoke with her parents 'if' she had been able to speak at the time I am sure they would have spoken to her. There has also been follow up calls to check on her progress. Chad, her father attended the US Nationals as a spectator and John welcomed him into his pits, trailer, motorhome and introduced him to many of the pro racers. Chad was very impressed by the down to earth attitude with the Force family. I know they have helped the Greer family out and both John and Ashley want to some day personally meet Kaylee. She still loves to watch drag racing and continually watches John and Ashley compete. She was very upset over the accident John was involved in. I am not saying that "As the story goes" did not happen, but I have seen the proof of what he has done for one sportsman racer and it was well beyond just a donation. The man has a heart along with the rest of the Force family. Our thoughts and Prayers are with the Force family. God's Speed for a complete recovery. Donna Morris ps Mr. Noland nothing was meant against you as I am sure this was a story you were told by someone. I just had to tell what I know John Force has done to help out a racer and her family in need. |
