Thanks for the reply Capri, but I used the clutch interlock wires. Just hard to get the wires out from under the dash with the rollbar there.
It's done and running, now having a problem with a flare going into 3rd. the trans builder says it's a qt. low on fluid. We will see. Thanks for you for the help Slickfoot |

Flair or Flash going into third is common, depending on who built the C-4. We switched from a C-4 to T-5 because of the flash because we felt the stick was quicker and more consistant. We got over 2800 runs with a stock T-5. We now have a used TKO in the car with 800 + runs.

The flair seems to go away after the trans is warmed, or at higher RPMs
I also found the pan bolts loose. I don't think that has any thing to do with it. I'm going to put the qt. of fluid in it and try it. I have to put the exhaust back on to try it on the street. Slickfoot 3955 |

Cool. That works too. We stock the correct NSS to convert to a C-4.
The flare on the 2-3 is an issue in the clutch pack as I recall. If its not more than 200 rpm, it will work fine forever at 6500RPM. An extra qt may not help. I believe I have 7qts in mine with a deep pan. |

The reason that a Ford C-4 can flair on the 2-3 shift is in its basic design. The C-4 has a intermediate band (2nd gear) and a direct clutch (third gear). When shifting from 2-3 the timing of the band release and clutch apply is important. Too much overlap it will tie up, not enough overlap and you get the dreaded flair. There are several different size int. servo ratios that can be used to adjust this situation. Be careful to NOT over fill the transmission with fluid. The C-4 has a tendency to leak out the vent. Good luck.
