good choice using the powerglide to set up a new car. I am still using a powerglide in my car but am going to try a 350 turbo soon to see how the car likes it.

The TH350 ,if the stock 2.48 first gear suits your combo, can be built with an aluminum drum ,TH 400 int sprag , trans brake valvebody for less than half the cost of the Pro Trans.
I would venture a guess that the performance advantage of the Pro Trans over the TH35 would be about .080-.120 second. depending on the ratios used.

Tom…I do believe the TH350 has a 2.52 first stock and the TH400 has a 2.48 stock. MB.

I think Tom is right. a lo-buck th350 would be faster than the glide in your application.

I remember talking to Joe LoCicero years ago about his SS car and he sad "if I want to go fast I run a turbo, If I want to win rounds I run a glide" Don Jackson

In the 2000 - 2002 season I raced an IHRA Crate Motor stocker. The initial build up was with a 200 trans. In the fall of 2000 the 3 speed broke and I swapped in a powerglide to make an up-coming race.

The car was sooo much easier to stage [smoother, less harsh] and became dead-on consistent. With the powerglide I won more and was more relaxed when driving.

Never reinstalled the 200 trans.

You are correct Maurece , I just usually use the 2.48 number as a generic ratio for most three speeds.

What about the Coan XLT 350 versus the Pro Trans? My application is a heads up crate engine class with one weight, one engine, one specific EFI tune.
