I was not referring to the aluminum center section. I do remember what the ruling was on that issue. Chrysler does not make the Dana and the Dana is accepted. I imagine that the 9" probably is aftermarket? And if so doesn't it follow the path of the Dana?

Once again, no.

You have to understand that the rules that apply to the "new" cars are not the same rules that apply to the "traditional" cars.

Alan is correct, I was told I could not run an aluminum 8.75 center section even though they were available and standard equipment on some A body lightweight (for gas mileage) production vehicles and also available in some truck Dodge applications in the '70's. Jim

What i am referring to is these race car shops putting a 9 inch ford style diffs in cars because quote "its easier to change" or " its quicker to change". How many times do you see people changing gears at the track. Almost never ! ! On the other hand why do you think the powerglide is used? Not because its easier to change.

From my recollection, the Feather Dusters and Dart Lites had aluminum transmission cases in the OD manual transmission, aluminum underhood panel, not the top skin which I think was steel (saw one in a junkyard with a scratch that was rusted), something aluminum in the bumper braces, I think it was the support behind the bumper. I don't recall any aluminum center sections. I doubt they put 8-3/4" axles in them since that ended in 1972 and those cars I think were 1975 or 1976 models. I think they were all slant sixes, so probably they got the 7-1/4" axle.

I have seen photos of a prototype aluminum 318 block. I think it was a Magnum 5.2L version.
