In this case, though, I think that they did the right thing. Some of those are known guys, and the cars are real. They had to do something. Everyone's bashing NHRA. Maybe they should be bashing the guys doing the show. Talk about money. Nobody on that show would care if it was cancelled if they didn't stand to lose money from the deal. Maybe a lot of money. Instead, they place the blame on NHRA for their own decisions. I'm not surprised one bit. That's the way it goes today. Blame the people enforcing the rules instead of the person breaking them. |

Todd, i agree with everything you said, nhra really needs to try and find a way to make this work for them instead of alienating and threatening people, i do believe they are really pissed about themselves looking stupid compared to " a bunch of yahoo street racers", somebody is making money and it aint them, did anyone notice how many guys are wearing msd and other manufacturers tee shirts now, want to bet someones getting paid to do that ??? whats next nhra throws out any sponsors that are shown on SO??

I see a lot of speculation on the deaths caused by "Street Racing" and what type of "Street Racing" would that be drag racing, Formula 1, salt flats, dune buggies.........
We all sound like the uneducated masses that call any type of street race a drag race.......... Just for the record I wonder how many people are killed each year due to driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs???????????????? If safety and saving lives is the issue, well.............. Bob

Left out cell phones, boom boom stereos, and tires with large and small diameters with off sets that stress suspension components, add on TV sets in vehicles, digital everything on the dash that causes you to take your eyes off the road to navigate thru menus, etc.

For at least 8 years i have watched street racing on You tube. There are cars from time to time have NHRA/IHRA #'s on the cars. Nothing was said. If you count the hits for these videos, there is certainly a large interest in drag racing. Everything on the Discovery Channel is staged in some manner, regardless of the format. These are all shows for entertainment. Entertainment is for $$$$$. A bunch of racers got noticed and became popular. I think that we all wished that it would happen to us. If Wally would have sanctioned street racers from the 60's, I doubt if NHRA would have gotten very far.Let them race and let NHRA offer an alternative to street racing at the end of the show...".it's safe and legal and fun and anyone one can do it with any car. That's how you win. Build the sport.

I'm like u; House of Darts, I look at alot of those races on you tube also, n wonder if NHRA gets their way here how long be they start hunting those guys down. Or is the difference that those guys don't show NHRA up in the ratings. SO members are paid to be on TV; while NHRA has to pay to be seen n still gets the shaft from ESPN. Does anybody know of another motorsport shown on TV that has to pay instead of being paid to be seen. These guys pack whatever tracks they go to when they make guest appearances; something NHRA hasn't been able to do for a long time. The gap between SOs' viewers n NHRAs' is getting bigger every year. Maybe it's time the executives at NHRA learned something instead of trying to run the competition out of town.
