Craig, Don't know for sure if that pic. was a first time show in the above magazine in 2005? I thought I remember seeing it elsewhere previous to this tho.

The 'now famous' photo of the 'Manhattan Speed Shop' LO23 'SS/BA' Hemi Dart
matched up with Ed Miller's BO29 'SS/B' Hemi Barracuda.

That 'photo' was taken on Sunday ~ July 21, 1968 at New York National
Speedway {Center Moriches, Long Island, New York}.

The host track for the '1968 Super Stock Magazine Nationals'.

That race was during the 2nd Round of 'Super Stock Eliminations'.

Result

Pete M****** was running his Hemi Dart in 'SS/BA', and was running off an 11.10 'Dial-In'
.
Ed Miller was running his Hemi Barracuda in 'SS/B', and was running off a 10.76 'Dial-In'.

Pete, working off a {.34 handicap}, caught a 'good light' and jumped out to a nice lead.

Ed Miller was 'late at the lights', and was forced to push his 'Barracuda' all-out to make up ground.

Ed just caught Pete at 'The Traps.

Ed ran a 'winning' 10.77, with only {.02 to spare} before 'breaking out'.

Pete ran a 'near upset win' with an 11.20, as the Hemi Dart had a 'slight'
fuel sputter on Top End, which cost him the Race.

That photo appeared in 'Speed and Supercar' Magazine {December 1968}.

Thanx for that once again Paul. Do you know who the first round opponent was at that race?.

Paul,
I have that issue and the only photo of Paul's (Daryl's) dart is in an article about setting up a Camaro 12 bolt rear end. The article is by Billy Mitchell and he used various photos and the race with Paul's dart and his Baldwin Motion 68 Camaro was one of them .It is rather small and I know that I have seen the same photo in a larger format somewhere else.

That is correct.

The 'Speed and Supercar' Magazine from {December 1968} has a
'centerfold' Pictorial of Hemi Dart's and Barracuda's.

It also has the 'article' about the Motion Performance A/MP
1968 Camaro.

With a photo of the 'Match Race' between the Camaro and Pete M*****
in his SS/BA Hemi Dart.

The photo of Ed Miller's - {SS/B} Barracuda and the Manhattan Speed Parts - {SS/BA} Dart
is from July 1968 at the 'Super Stock Magazine Nationals'.

That photo could have come from the following >
* Super Stock and Drag Illustrated {September 1968}
* Rodder and Super Stock {December 1968}
* Hot Rod Magazine {October 1968}

Those were the only Magazines that had photo coverage of
the 1968 Super Stock Magazine Nationals.

Cool Re: Original hemi dart information

You can eliminate the Sept. 68 issue of SS/DI from the equation,, as I just looked through my copy, and the only '68 Darts pictured are 2 shots of Shirley Shahan's new Dart on pg.12,, in the California Newsletter section,, and a shot of Dick Landy's SS/EA car driven by Bob Lambeck in the NHRA Springnationals coverage. Sorry guys,, I had my fingers crossed hoping to find something we could use,,,,good luck.

It's possible,

That the photo is an extra or 'out-take' that was saved for a later
publication.
