Shirley Shahan ~ 'Drag-On-Lady'

1967 Dodge Coronet 'Model 440' WO23 '426 Hemi'.

Classed in SS/BA in 1967.

While the 1967 'WO23' was 'not'' a big winner at the Super Stock Eliminator
Events and Major Meets, Shirley made the { $$$ } in the Match-Race Circuit
during her 1967 campaign tour of the Drag Strips throughout the United States.

Also, she was a 'paid'' employee of the Chrysler Racing Program, to go out
and 'promote' Chrysler Products at appearances at Dodge Dealerships and
Drag Strips.

Tour

The year would start out in Southern California with trips to both Arizona and
Las Vegas for the early-year big events.

Then campaign in California during March and April.

Also, Shirley would be involved in the 'Mobil Economy Run' that was held in
early April. An 'endurance race' from Los Angeles to Detroit over a 6-Day
period.

They usually stayed on the West-Coast until early-May, then headed out to
the North-Central area {Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois} for
the month of May.

From there, it was to Tennessee for the NHRA and AHRA Springnationals
in the month of June, and touring of Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania
as well.

Eventually moving up to the Northeast {New York, Ontario -Canada, and
New England area} for July.

Then the 'Southeastern Swing' for August, before heading back up North to
Indy for the 'Nationals' on Labor Day Weekend.

Then the 'Mid-West Run' in September, before stopping off in Colorado for
a Mountain-area visit.

The a 'quick-shot' up to Washington State.

Then heading back to down to California in early-October for a short rest.

And then one more swing into the Southwest {Oklahoma, Nebraska and Texas}
in October.

Usually '3' Events per week, coupled with weekly appearances at Dealerships
for a 'meet-and-greet' at Performance Clinics.

It was a 'tour' no doubt.

How come I can never find a cool job like that?

Here's a cleaned up and resized version of your photo. Hope you don't mind.

Pete,

Good photo enhancing......

Shirley Shahan and husband > H.L. Shahan

Cut a 'great deal' with Wynn's Oil Company {Azusa, California} as the primary
sponsor for 1967.

Chrysler 'worked' out the details with the Southern California Dodge Dealers in
covering the costs for the Shahan's 1967 Coronet 'Hemi'.

Plus + Plus = 'a very good income for 1967'.

1967 ~ Shirley Shahan

Was it a;
* Coronet 'Model 440' - '426 Street Hemi'
* Coronet R/T ~ '426 Street Hemi'
* Coronet 'Model 440' ~ 'WO23' Hemi'

> Low-back Bucket Seats
> Front-and Rear Bumper Guards
> Chrome-Trim rocker-panel molding
> Front-Grille {Black-out Paint}
> Were the 'R/T' Emblems added on later
> Was the 'WO23' Hood-Scoop added on later.

Here, Shirley is running at an AHRA Track....... Formula Class / B Stock '6'

My guess it was a WO23 Coronet 440 model with R/T emblems and trim. But then it could be a converted R/T which is unlikely due to its heaver weight.

Paul, in a Mopar magazine interview Shirley she said it was a WO car and that they really had to get sneaky to get weight out of the car because it weighed so much from the Factory....no light weight parts!
