Stewart, I am looking at JA. I am going to use the caltrac split mono that is on the car. We are going to either move the rails in or replace them. I am using a 12x 30 now but it is a tight fit. I think that will be enough tire for J but if not we want the ability to go with a 13x31.

Sounds like we are looking at close to the same package. I'm going to run GT/EA with the 383 in a 68 Cuda. I am still kicking around the Caltracs. If I use Caltracs I will use the stock rails but likely moved in just incase I need more room. Car goes to the blaster this week, then I'll have to decide Caltrac or 4 link. The rear already has 4 link at about 24" spacing so I could still use it with the leafs under the rails at about 28-30" and still hang front 4 link mounts in the car. The Cuda has a little over 15" from rail to the inside of the quarter panel. Guess, like you, I would be limited to 12" without moving the rails. Give me a number wher I can reach you. Kick some things around. Stewart |

FWIW,I use a 15x12 wheel,6.5" b/s with either a 13x31 or 12.2x31.25 Phoenix and stock frame rails in the OE location.Car is 1971 Demon.I also ran the same combo on a 1969 'Cuda.

I went thru this in 02 with my Camaro. Had it filled with flat metal of the same guage and was told no way. Unfortunately I had discarded all the metal from the original car so I had to buy another one just to get the section from the back to fill in between the frame rails. Would have been a lot easier to do when I was building the car than it was to fill it in afterwards. Good question and good advice from Stewart. Bill |

Chris- thanks for the info. It may help Stewart. The Dart must be slightly smaller. I would like to use the 12.2 x31.25w if I could. With the rails moved or replaced I can.
Bill- I had already cut out the tire well and was going to sell it to someone needing it for restoration. After re-reading my old rule book I noticed the requirement. Luckily it was still in the shop. I was hoping the rule might have changed in the past year. Stewart- you can catch me Sunday and Monday after 9pm Central at 417-359-8309 Thanks |
