Check out these stats from the Web Cast. These are impressive and no matter what you think of the format, this thing is working.

I expect NHRA wishes their events would create this kind of buzz.
I don't pay much attention to the NHRA TV shows. I had Lights Out streaming most of the weekend while I was in the shop working. The track's PA feed with the track announcers as the only commentary is much preferable to the personalities, side features and distractions of broadcast TV. The camera work was great as was the on track audio. It's as close to being there as you can get without actually being there. I usually have the NHRA audiocast on also when there is an event. I enjoy hearing it as it happens at the track. If I could watch NHRA events in this format, I would. Hopefully, someone in Glendora is paying attention. |

the first thing that NHRA has to do is figure out who they are trying to sell their product/sport too. I am not sure they know.
NASCAR ratings for Daytona this past Sunday were way down too even without another major sporting event one TV. The traditional racing fans are not there any more. Do you see all the people with hoodies at an NHRA race or Nascar? Nope.

In the late 1960's some special events had crowds like this and people all over the starting line area.
Super Stock was new.....Pro Stock didn't exist yet... Exhibition cars were being built with all kinds of wild stuff... York.....Cecil County....and I'm sure others. I was at York when the crowds were huge behind the starting line....late 1960's.... My question is how in the world is this starting line crowd tolerated when at just about any other race there is NO WAY that many people would be allowed to be that close to cars making 2000hp and more.... We pay a lot of money for safety items,....insurance surcharges.....chassis cert and jump thru hoops to meet the demands made of us by NHRA....all in the name of safety..... It doesn't add up to an old guy like me...... Sure the excitement and enthusiasm is great but it's just thrill seekers to me..... Cars doing giant wheelies way down track....big power....danger to the max........fast et's.....big mph... I've seen it at Cecil when the small tire crowd was there......during a Lucas race and it was allowed..... I just don't understand how it flys from an insurance and safety standpoint..... Money talks......

At first glance of the people standing I thought it was the Schumacher / Force entourage.
Ron Ortiz U/SA everybody has black zits.

They shut the race down a couple of times and made people move off of the starting line. Took 15 minutes to get the crowd to move. Place was wall to wall people. Don't know what kind of security they had on hand. They were probably just trying to maintain some semblance of control. It does appear to be a different audience than shows up for NHRA events.

The crowds at the starting line have been like that for several years now at grudge racing events in the south. There's more people at the line than in the stands sometimes.

NHRA tried to have some heads up events a couple years ago and it failed.
