If there would be no AHFS in qualifying and no AHFS in heads-up runs, what's the point of having the AHFS? Probably 10 years ago I suggested using the data that they had collected over the years, factor *every* combination somewhere in the right zip code *once*, and be done with it. If cars weren't underfactored, who wouldn't have to protect your index in the first place.

I thought it was everyone's goal to run as fast as they can, must be an old school thing with me. As Steve Kopien always said " I just got'a know"

The AHFS does not work only because the racers don't want it to work.

Why would they want it to work on "their cars"? The game is "use the system" of poor factoring, poor supervision, poor NHRA understanding to be a "winner". That system creates a large percentage of unhappy racers because they always are believing others are using the system better than they are, or they cannot sell their car and start with the new shiny, low factored combinations.

Umm Dick, I hate to say this but isn't that the "American Way"?

We would like it to work on everybody else's cars.

Very few are only using mechanical skill, driving skill and tune up to win. Most search the rules for loop holes to help them gain a head start in being competitive and feel hurt if their combo is discovered by NHRA by AHFS or hurt by faster competitor. Don't misunderstand this is encouraged by the rules as they exist. Only a fool would ignore this method of gaining an advantage as it exists. Just the way "NHRA class racing is" yes. |

How many cars can go a buck 20 under at Indy? I sure can't!
