Street Outlaws...just the name and the premise goes against everything NHRA is supposed to be about. I have raced for 50 years and all those years with NHRA. I played by their rules and bought every safety item for every car I've owned required. I have paid memberships and license fees and had cars inspected and fixed if needed to satisfy NHRA rules. I am well aware that $$ makes the world go round as the saying goes but this association is BS to me. Street Outlaws is no different than illegal street racing and that goes back many, many years. I did it a few times in the 1960's and we raced for whatever we agreed on. I quickly felt it was a bad idea and became an NHRA racer. I don't care how popular this show might be, it promotes illegal racing. Yea I know it's staged but it still is bogus to me.It took many years for Drag Racing to be an accepted sport. When Bob Glidden was featured in a Ford ad on network TV it said to me we made it. $$$ talks says it all now with NHRA...

Unfortunately NHRA has been watching reality TV too much. There is a thought that something new will save them. Sorry it is a slow downhill spiral for a sport that we have supported in its original form. Most of the dyed in the wool Class racers and racers in general are disappearing along with the spectators NHRA has lost and they are grasping for a new "show" instead of " tuning up the show" they had.
Many of us will be missed by our friends but the show goes on with new players for the cash. |

Then again, maybe it's just a public service announcement from one of the stars of the show that supports NHRA's 60-year old viewpoint that all racing should be done in a safe and controlled environment.
Maybe this is the result of months of negotiations and a little give and take on both sides to make people realize that you can accomplish more by working together than you can by digging your heels in. Personally, I see a lot of positives from this deal. |

Making a public service announcement and then going back to doing what made you your 15 minutes of fame and $$$ makes zero sense to me if that is what this is about. And A writer for the NHRA's ND is probably going to be just a little bit biased.....

http://www.dragzine.com/news/nhra-an...-announcement/
The dragzine article states that a commercial to be made to discourage street racing. What's wrong with NHRA and SO discouraging street racing in a commercial? Then SO will make appearances to select Nat. events. Now some of you can race in front of a packed grandstand. I don't understand the fuss over something positive. Remember the SO show is a scripted event just like the TV shows and movies that show people getting stabbed and shot. Its made for TV guys so relax. |

Hey Kevin, I reckon you're right, BUT, just because there's a super, duper cool guy fronting the Outlaws show doesn't mean it will transfer over. It'll be short term just like the arm waving start show that's now defunct.
How about this! Put a super, duper cool guy pumping up cool cars on TV from a National. We already have cool cars that already do big wheel-stands and get it done. Problem is, we rarely crash and continually make good passes all the time !!!!! HUH-------------boring I suppose. Class racers are a breed of their own and it's difficult to get an audience to understand what and why we do this.
