Sad news indeed. Jere was an icon in the sport, especially for the stock and super stock guys and gals. My condolences to his family and close friends at this sad time. May his memories live on forever.

I remember talking to Grumpy at the motel in Pomona and picking his brain about things. He was really interested in how/why we had mounted the carbs and the neat totally adjustable linkage we had fabricated for our tunnel ram. We went on to somehow got to talking about headers and he suggested Stahl headers told us the sizes to get and that he would talk to Jere personally explain what we needed and to fabricate up a set. Next race we saw Bill in Gainesville at the Gators and he delivered a brand new set of Stahl headers for our car...We put them on and immediately picked up about 6-7 hundredths and about a 1/2 MPH. After visiting his truck we had him weld some collector tabs on our new set of Stahl's and noticed he had copied my idea of carb mounting and linkage exactly. Said he wondered why nobody had never thought about doing it that way. Those headers were a work of art ,perfect fit and "they worked" from then on we always ran Stahl stuff... Never actually met Jere but had many phone conversations with him. My sincere condolences to his family.

Peace to you Jere Stahl. I did not know him but learned more about his amazing career & contributions after studying the 1966 A/S battle between Jere and the Grump.
We are lucky to have such pioneers, with the spirit of innovation and the willingness to bring it hands-on into reality. |
