I'm not sure if its a misprint on NHRA's side but they're listing the points earned from the Factory Car Showdown races under National points. I like the 8 car shootouts but their points shouldn't be put towards the National Championship unless they run the regular eliminator and earn points that way like the rest of us.

I think the Factory Stock Showdown is great the way they integrate it with the professional program now. That being said, for an eliminator car, it would require 15 winlights (three 6-round race runner ups, 84) to earn 252 points. Whereas, the showdown cars have 9 winlights to earn 255 points (85 each win).
I understand that the guys in this class work their tails off on these combos and they are dutifully rewarded. But, it seems a little off that they earn points towards the same goal as the eliminator guys. I would hope this wouldn't have an overall effect at the end of the year, but the question has to be raised.

But these guys still have to go out and run well at Division races. there is only 4 races they can do this at, compared to the 24 races the other guys can go to.
The FS class in highly competitive, with lots of resource spent in man hours as well monetary. If a guy makes the commitment, to run all the races, then goes to points races and performs well. He deserved to be recognized. You guys would hate to run against these cars in the eliminator with the 150+ speed. Now you don't like they have there own class. They also don't get contigency for wins in the shootout. So is points toward the national championship race so unfair? |

I realize how hard these teams work. The overall championship is based off the handicap eliminator with a little heads up mixed into it. That has been the rule for a long time. It makes no sense to award points to a select few that choose to spend $100k+ to do it. What Barton has done against the other Showdown cars is amazing but he shouldn't be awarded the same points as the guys in the eliminator when he doesn't compete against them. Let them have their own points deal and crown a champion off it. I thought that's what the national performer deal is about? Most people on this forum do not race but they need to realize how hard it is to earn 85 points at a national event, which is what is awarded from winning three rounds...

M. Brand , you are dead-on !!! Do you get the feeling everything is leaning their Way ??? No-way should they get more points for a race which we can't run !!!! They should have their own race with the same points per round ....

I don't run Stock, but agree that it seems very wrong to award Stock points for the Factory Showdown round wins.
Might be different if the winner earned 60 points there and was then placed into the Stock field for Round 4.

Hmm, lets see......they have their own eliminator
Get to run with the pros have a separate award can earn more points per round has one dominating car NO, they should not be eligible for national points. Either run with the regulars or run your own separate deal. And YES, I would love to run them 150+ MPH cars. No need to judge the finish line, takes the worry out of being close. I'm pretty sure they can judge me also? They might not get contingencies, but I believe they really don't need them with the support they get. My contingencies are a joke compared to several years ago. I think it is good for the sport for them to continue their presentation as FS. Doesn't Factory Stock remind you of the old Factory Stock in the 60' & 70', that later became Super Stock. If you think that they should be rewarded for their performance accomplishments, then you better be ready to reward the Graham's also. Ron Ortiz U/SA

I love the cars and love the idea of factory showdown with heads up racing, but they need to have there own points system. It would be nice to get some points for qualifying well, setting records, or winning class, but none of us do.

I agree with Michael and Austin. Don't forget the FS/XX guys that don't make the Showdown usually occupy the top 4 spots in the eliminator taking advantage of first available byes. The system is completely flawed.
