The new Goodyear Marathons were D rated, trailer weight about 8000 lb. Trip was late July, so it was hot in some areas across the country. When the limit was 75, usually ran 72-74. The tires did not get hot--I check each stop.

My experience with those tires, albeit several years ago is that they were fine at first but then started coming apart. Same thing with the replacement Towmasters (load range D). They were both eventually subject to shifted belts, sidewall bulges and blowouts. Age and sun is not a trailer tires friend. I have tire covers but can't do anything to stop the march of time.

My trailer is a std 24 haulmark with a 3080lb 68 camaro, 800lb golf cart, 3000eu generator, and sometimes a 240lb junior dragster, with the Towmaster D tires. Ive been to Brainerd, Bandimere, Kearney, Eddyville, Topeka, and 100s of 80 mile round trips to my local track. Never had 1 shred...just would have 1 that went flat, and then it was time to replace all 4. Usually about 4 years of service.

And I run fast on the interstate. Kept the tires at 70psi.

Clark,

Four years is probably a good rule of thumb. My new E rated tires can go to 80 pounds but the wheels are not rated that high, I am running 70 as before.

I don't care which tire brand or size you run, but get a TPMS system. I have been using one from EEZTIRE for more than 2 years now. The peace of mind it gives me will traveling from Texas to Las Vegas to Indy is immeasurable. Easily installed and it can handle up to 22 tires. It will monitor each tire and let you know if you are having a problem and pinpoint it to the specific tire. You can set low/high pressure warnings and high temp warnings as well. It easily changes for use without the trailer attached.
It's really nice to turn it on while loading up and it will tell you the pressures of all the tires so you don't have to go and check each tire separately.

I have an overloaded 24' trailer and I run Trailer King ST Radial Trailer Tire 10 ply load E,
Great tire, I got tired of carrying multiple tires, so I decided I would try them all, at one time I had 4 different brands on my trailer, The Trailer King's held up the best..
The key is DO NOT OVER INFLATE!
