The NHRA no longer has any appeal to anyone I know of...........and I know a few. They like heads up NOS , 10.5 turbo and outlaw stuff , nostalgia racing and even gassers. There is an entire "universe" of racing outside of the NHRA. I went to the Southerns this year.........I'll never go back............I'm done. To me Pro Stock lost its appeal when WJ , Glidden , Iaconio and RMS left.....now its the Camaro nationals......... Again........say what you want about Pro Mod..............but ,it has much greater "appeal" than Pro Stock. |

I agree 100% with all of this. There is racing away from NHRA and it's national events and it is thriving. I'll never go back to a NHRA national event. It's a shame but Glendora has ruined a good thing just like Helton and France has done to NASCAR.....

How much do you think a car built like this would weigh Dirk? Doubt very much they could race at the current minimum weight.

Not a bad Idea but I think a 400 cu in forced induction engine will make way more power than a 500 NA. That's kinda like mini promod. I say leave pro stock alone for the next few years and see if it can survive in a better economy

Lose the jellybean bodies and bring back body templates. Much of the appeal of the original pro stock was that the cars actually looked like the cars out in the parking lot.

I agree that the smaller forced induction engine will make more power. Look at the waves Buddy Ingersoll made with his 6 cylinder turbo Buick in Pro Stock many years ago! (Forgot if that was in NHRA or other sanctioning bodies.) The little engine Mustangs are showing that now in FS. But I believe if Pro Stock is left alone, as is, for too long, there won't be anything left to save!

Pro Stock was hot and exciting when it competed at Local tracks.
Then there was Outlaw Pro Stock that was exciting to go to. Do not see any independent Pro Stock races at local tracks anymore. Not even a team coming for practice. But you see tons of other super quick heads up cars taking a lap. Lots of street racers come to watch. All kinds American and Imported cars making large amounts of power. Imports have been an ignored segment with IHRA and NHRA. When the local tracks have import day. Tons of cars arrive, compete and they have their car shows. They come to have fun. As I remember back in our day it was the street scene that drove excitement. We showed up to the drag strip to watch the big boys and rumors. D |

All steel bodies? Just a guess steel would add I would think 85 to 100 pds.
