1975. Car ran natural class. Had to weigh shipping weight (weighed without driver). Stock pistons (.035 over permitted). Blueprinting permitted. Reground camshaft permitted (stock lift,,duration and overlap). Open headers and slicks.

Plus all the correct body trim, hoods, tail lights, parking lights. All that stuff for the year, make and model claimed.

1977, I think..Spools and electric fuel pumps allowed.
Things were fine until any duration and any spring pressure. Wesley should have been turned loose on the phony heads too.

To the year there was SS,A/S down to E/S and you had to win class to run for stock eliminator. 20' per class head start. Many were not even born yet.

Class winners and then the fastest qualifiers for the 128 car field. Class winners still have to run on or under the index to be included in the field of 128. Just like it used to be.
This would make Indy more cutthroat and return the suspense of making it into the field. |

It was 25' per class around here. 250' max spot. With flagmen. Heck, I liked running off records too. Had to win class to run eliminations. First trip to Pomona for me, Sonny Bryant sent me right back to Oklahoma first round of class. Not so many classes then, either. Bye runs for class was a bit unusual. Any old thing will run under these indexes now. They have dumbed it way down.

What year did NHRA start being less stringent on the trim, grille, correct trim, etc. ? Back in the '70s when running my '69 Camaro stocker, I was told in tech if I ran a rear deck spoiler on my car, I had to have the lower front one too since it came from the factory as a package. Today this is not evident.
