I wonder if this is related to Bill Floyd being put on the no hire list ? As far as believing anything NHRA says, this is the same organization that told us there was a break in at Wayne County.....AND The Sportsman racer is the backbone of our sport....

Awfully sudden "retirement" announcement, and at such an odd time with another season getting up and going. Hmmm. Gotta wonder about that press release.
Was sitting right across from Jay at a track dinner about three weeks ago telling him about my efforts to finally get an AMC Stocker up and going and my pending retirement date and he said he'd be watching for me this year at the divisionals.

It's call relived of duty! In other words don't let the door hit you in the As- on the way out! Jesse's life cycle won't be long there when he finds out how little control he has. A DD has a very short rope today!

Now if the idiots on the board in Kali. all step down we'll have some joy in NHRA Sportsman ranks.

With dragracingonline.com's problematic veracity I wouldn't be taking that as gospel.
That bloviating Burk and his minions thrive on being the "TMZ" of drag racing news. My personal experience with Mr. Kershaw leads me to doubt he will be a very effectual DD. His communication skills leave a lot to be desired. But again that's just my experience. As far as Jay Hullinger, I had my issues with how he did or didn't do things at times. There were quite a few times that I had some pretty vociferous and animated conversations with him. But I never felt like I was treated any differently (good or bad) because of it. I doubt most on this forum have any kind of clue as to the demands of Jay's responsibilities. I am sure that past few years were very stressful for Jay working for a ever more imperious NHRA upper management. He should be thanked for his 30 years of service and wished a pleasureable retirement. |

I agree Jay should be applauded for such a long venture as the DD in #3. For sure not an easy deal at times. However, can't forget when at a points race in Indy, the day started with the planned rotation and after 3 classes it rained and the day was called. Next day instead of continuing the run order he decides to start it all over square one. BAD decision. You guessed it, 3 of the same classes get runs and it rains again, turns out to be a wash. 10 hours home and I never made a pass. I won't miss him.

Jay Hullinger had no idea what the word "customer" meant. In my IMO he did not care one bit about Stock and Super Stock racers. He hosted meetings with Top Dragster and Top Sportsman racers a number of times and never once to my knowledge did the same for Stock or Super Stock racers. Just look at the schedule. Racing in St Louis in July,Columbus in August and always in Boiling Green in August. For years we raced in Cincinnati in August. Each time racers and spectators would succumb to the heat and be treated on site or taken to a medical facility for treatment. He did not care or think about what might have happened to these people. As far as I am concerned good riddance to Jay Hullinger.
