Just saw this on powerstroke forum, but sound was near radio and not on left side of dash:
The clicking was coming from under my dash - just under the Radio. I ended up pulling the Panel that exposes your fuse panel - then under the AC and Radio there is a cluster of wires plugged into 3 relays. 2 small relays and 1 large. When I would try to start the engine I could feel the clicking sound I heard from those relays.. I squeezed on the three relays and tried to start the engine and it worked. However the next day I still had the clicking sound and no start.. I took the 2 smaller relays (both being the same - part # F57B-14B192-AA) and swapped them with each other. Putting the Top on into the bottom slot and bla bla bla. |

sound might be under radio didn't look that closely but I was pissed ---by disconnecting and reconnecting both batteries I am essentially re-setting every thing ---you would think that the lights locks etc would come back on maybe not enough voltage turn the starter but the clicking sound is new never ever have heard that before--- this is a one owner truck I have owned it since new no MODS whatsoever chips programmers remote start stuff nothing so this was kinda surprising--- I changed the batteries about 5 years ago they were getting old and going into winter did not want any surprises/problems and at that time no of these problems arose---FED 387

I might add the truck doesn't crank at all not slow nothing like its totally dead--nothing works other than the clicking sound and the dome light flashing off and on---

Are you in a freezing climate area ?
Most Diesel engines need to have the block heater plugged in to stop the fuel from jelling . It will also cause a very slow or no crank situation. Anything below 30deg will cause a diesel to have a hard start issue

Ends up I had 2 problems. First one of the brand new batteries was defective second the wire from the solenoid to the starter motor was corroded about 1/2 way thru. If u wiggled the wire while on the starter tester it would maybe turn over but most likely not. Ended up replacing the bad battery and put in a new starter wow fires right up just like brand new. fed 387
