I must applaud Chris on this effort that he has put into this car show. Yes, I co-host on random Wednesday Nights on Wheelz-Up Radio with him, Mike & Bob Bender but, he really has taken this whole project on himself. I really hope a lot of tracks take a look at the model he is putting forth and the sponsors he is getting to maybe put something together like this for their National Events, Divisional Events or just local Bracket Races. We all get on here and say "Drag Racing is dead" "It's a dying sport" "Nobody is in the stands" but, putting together a show that showcases drag racing may get kids to put down their phones for 5 minutes and get parents and themselves interested in something like this and may look into a Junior Dragster. Trust me I played sports as a teenager, stick & ball sports cost almost as much as a J/D these days.
I can tell you in D1 we have a great supporting sponsor in PC Richards and what Gary & his families do for us racers is top notch. The one thing he has in his corner is that he owns Appliance Stores that are growing and growing down the EC. If Chris can reach out to the State House in NH and get the State House Building, it shouldn't be very hard for us to reach out to some of the supporting sponsors of D1 and say "Hey, the Wednesday or Thursday Night before the LODRS at Atco, E-Town, Etc. we want to have a Drag Racing Night at PC Richards or Wal-Mart at X Location." If we can throw a few free tickets, have a few cool cars outside so people stopping by will see what is going to be and generate 10-15 extra butts in the seats then we need to do it. I've done a few car shows at my old Applebee's for Alex's Lemonade Stand and Dan & Beth Pomponio brought their Alky Funny Car out to show along with our Nova Wagon SG car and the crowds generated by those two cars were second to none. I had people tell me "I saw this funny car in the parking lot and had to stop and see, I've only seen them on TV because I though Atco or E-Town was closed." There is a reason that Bill Bader & Norwalk can pack the stands at a D3 race and don't say it's because "It's Norwalk". It's because the Baders know how to market events and don't gouge the eyes out of the fans to come for a show. As all my professors told me in college "If you charge someone $15.00 for a ticket and get 500 people you are likely going to make more profit then charging them $25.00 per ticket and only having 200 people show up because those extra 300 people will buy a t-shirt, hats or hamburger in it's place and go home happy with pockets full rather then jumping on FB or Yelp and giving a bad review because they went to the drag strip with their kid and spent $200 for 5 hours of racing. Way too many options out there for people to choose from in this day in age to price gouge.
So we all need to work together, young or old to make this work and if someone is interested in putting something together before a big event before a LODRS event shoot Chris or Myself a PM or you can call me personally at 856-332-2851.
