Unhappy Re: Jerry McClanahan RIP

I met Jerry many decades ago when I had a 283 car. He steered me around a few issues and sold me some of his old parts. Fun guy to know. I remember reading about him and his 66 full sized 283 wagon when he won 17 Saturday nights in a row at the original Irwindale, he and other racers thrashed all night to make the next race, the usual stuff. When I started bracket racing, he had a Chevy II that would run Super Street. At the last bracket race at OCIR ,he spanked me on the tree round one when I had my 409.
Some time back, we had a discussion about racers, and there were some that did nothing but hang on the fence and watch, some who have done it so long they lived through and witnessed history, and a smaller core of racers that actually made history. Jerry was definitely one of those.

Sad to hear about Jerry passing. Met him back at OCIR and always enjoyed talking with him.

Godspeed Jerry. I remember when Car Craft? did a story on him. The garage he had wasn't big enough for the wagon to fit inside. He would pull the engine and leave the wagon outside while he rebuilt it.

That wagon (the brown 66) was here in the northwest many years ago. Steve Green drove it for awhile. Does anyone know where it is now?/ Just curious.

Prayers go out to his family and close friends. Another great person lost.

The wagon ( Jerry Mc / Rob Robinson / ??/ John Nickel / Ryan Smith / Brian McClanahan) is in Arizona, being restored. Brian hasn't decided exactly what he will do with it, but it's back in the family.

Jerry was winning lots when I first started (1974) and he was a legend in my mind even though we were on opposite coasts. Having a 283 Chevy II made me pay attention to people like him.

May he rest in peace, condolences to all.

Thanks for info Mark. I believe Rob owned the wagon when my buddy Steve drove it. Hard to remember all the details it was in the late 80's or early 90's i think.

Glad to know the wagon is back with the family where it belongs. Maybe it could go into a museum as part of west coast drag racing history. Jerry and the wagon are both legends, as far as I am concerned.
