The 1st Ohio S/SS Nationals turned was a great event. A big thanks to Jack Porter for putting up the guaranteed purse. Not to many places you can race for $5K for $100. Plus it was only a one day event. I think there ended up being around 58 cars. The new owners of Cols have made a lot of improvements over a very short time. I think by the NHRA D3 points meet this summer the track will be in great shape. We will definitely be there for the second race at Dragway 42 and hopefully we do a little better. I ran into a buzz saw 2nd round. B Kelly was .007 dead 4.

$100 for a guaranteed $5,000 to win, $10,000 total purse... and 58 cars show up. Shocker.
I very much appreciate Jack Porter putting up a great purse for us to run for, and thanks to Terry Knott for letting me drive the Dart Sport again. I was really rusty, but it turned out to be a good day, and had a great time. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Congrats to Jeff. That's a nice way to start off a racing season.

Wow! Over 300 posts on this thread already with all the comments about how great the improvements are at the track, and how great a deal it is to pay $100 entry for a $10,000 purse.
Oh, I'm sorry. It's not over 300 posts. It's 2. smh...

Much agreed Michael. Why did S/SS racers not show up. I've heard "it's 1/8 mile". Can't race 1/8th for 5K to win??? Really???
I think the timing of the race may have hurt. With the Divisional at Norwalk this weekend, Sportsnationals the following week and the Route 66 divisional after that. But really, if you are anywhere close why would you not run ? Is time off from work? is a matter of money? Saving funds to run 2 or 3 NHRA races in a row? May have been too early in the season. One racer told me he had not been out yet and needed to test on a 1/4 mile track. Michael, you know more than anyone there are several reasons. Hopefully more will attend the June 17th race at Dragway 42. I think they will, especially with it being a new facility. |

Michael, I sit back and wonder how any race promoter in their right mind would continue to schedule a stk /SS race at Columbus ? Obviously this promoter lost $$$ on this race, you lost $$ on your race....

Location isn't the biggest issue. Almost every attempt at big money S/SS races has failed, in a variety of regions. The best bang for the buck out there is Jack's race, and the various S/SS Series. Most racers just don't care, unfortunately. You had more people go sit in the rain at Indy for 4 days, on purpose. That's what people want to do. People want to run NHRA, come hell or high water. Literally. That's their priority. It is what it is.
Thank you for your part in making our races some of the best S/SS events ever.
