As often as horsepower is being refactored on some combinations, what happens to the record when a car gets bumped into another class?

They are supposed to be returned to a minimum , if the car weight , at the time of record setting, is less than required at present.
However, I've seen examples recently where they were just allowed to expire.
I'd be okay with "forever" records, if the hp and weight changes were policed like Farmer would have done.

Ed, I'm so glad you started this thread, I was just looking at all the minimums and thinking how sad!!! First would be at least getting NHRA to relist them back in ND.

How about if you set a record you automatically get an entry to any National event you sign up for!! No matter how many grade points it takes to get in.

At the very least, get rid of the 2 year rule, a record is a record. What other sport has an expiration date on records?

I like Ed's original plan with Bretv's one allowed entry thrown in.
National records should be listed in every ND.

lets see we have 4 nhra record's 1 one mile record
haven't paid for fuel (118) since 2010
haven't paid for engine blocks
haven't paid for engine component's
haven't paid for many other miscellaneous electronic & driveline parts
do records matter, hell yes to me
hang a gold card out there we'll set a record again
we'll go thru tear down and it takes us a little longer than
most (4 cam v8) So there are perks out there
as a group we can lobby by running for records the tech guy's will
love it (ya think).
sponsors like to say, we sponsor winning & record holding race cars.
records matter, of course will nhra do the right thing in keeping a nhra
tradition.will national dragster jump in and make things happen by doing a profile on record holders. sponsors would like to see a car they sponsor on a half page that could lead a sponsor to start advertising in N/D
THE TOOLS ARE THERE DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO
USE THEM
just my 2cents

I agree! Record setting should be rewarded in some way. Awarding points would help.If there was any incentive at all, it would be a positive move. Dennis, I like the idea of MOPAR stepping up, can you confirm this?

I don't expect NHRA executives to embrace the idea. I wish they would be more aware of racer interest at the sportsman level. I agree about sponsorship as well. If there was effort put in to it, anything is possible. I fear that since there seems to be a lack of understanding by NHRA execs about the sportsman performance classes, they would see this as an expense. I am not sure if anyone in Glendora knows what stock and superstock racers are all about. Anyone know the person at NHRA that would consider changes or improvements?

From the 1981 rule book:

Additional points are awarded as follows:

50 points for establishing official class elapsed time record

25 points for establishing official class mile per hour record

Sportsman drivers are awarded points for only one elapsed time record and only one m.p.h. record during the course of the season, for a maximum of 75 record points.
