There were a few championships decided on record points. Eventually they did away with them.

Wish they did not do that..
Setting a National Record is something the Fans GET !

I'm going to put together a nice presentation and submit it to NHRA. It may be futile but I will try anyway. I will keep everyone posted. Thanks. Ed

So this conversation just morphed from Natl Record to running class elims at Divisional races, two separate issues....

Having held 4 NHRA National records in four different cars, I feel I can attest to the value of accomplishing that feat.
Yes, we were able to attract sponsors. Yes, there were some psychological advantages in class eliminations. Yes, there were some hate letters ( some of those early records determined the class index for the Nation). Yes, it removed many suspicions about how the cars got so fast. An NHRA record teardown is,( or was), pretty damn thorough. Yes, it was easier to sell the cars and move on to the next project. However, for me, it was sharing with 2 or 3 other crew guys the exhilaration of accomplishing something that less than 1% ( a guess) of drag racers ever feel. Those records were the payback for the crew that I got as a winning driver...well sometimes a winning driver.

I'm working on the record deal. Class at divisional was just an idea.

I wasn't aware that I was bitching, and I'm not sitting on my butt, I thrash on my car on a daily basis trying to make it faster and have been running Divisional races on an ongoing basis for the past several decades. I have set National Records on numerous occasions (and am not particularly happy when they go back to minimum after two years). I'd love to run class at Divisional races, just saying the National Record issue and running class at Divisionals are two separate issues and should be dealt with on separate threads. Incidentally, Division 6 has a year end CIC type race sponsored by the Gaynors based on points accumulated during the season.

Just a thought because I would probably only go to the Division races that had Class only!
Great idea! The only catch is that class eliminations also need to prioritized, promoted, and/or showcased for it to work. If they're on the schedule for Friday at 11:00 am of a 3 day divisional and are the first thing to get axed when there's a rain delay...you won't draw as many fans and they won't have much of an impact.
