Not exactly on the beaten path but the Mission divisional race is as good as it gets. Crazy fast sea level track with lots of history (first 9 second stock run, first 7 second SS run among others) and the nicest people (racers, staff and spectators) you will ever meet. The spectators are die hard door slammer fans and actually understand class racing. Not a state of the art national event kind of track but definitely a track that needs to be visited if you get the chance.
