now that this thread has been completely hijacked, time to add another question. I am going the 318 route now. What are the best years for 318 blocks as far as deck and wall thickness?

I tried to stay on point for you. Just find anything as early as you can 66-72 dates are best. Most of these should be nearly free. For years I paid scrap value for 273 engines.

Paul, you were directly on Point, it was the roll bar and other discussions that went into another direction. I have a couple of 273 blocks here at my place if you want them
