to review, the confusing part of this issue is that I never had it happen before. [that is to say, never installed a new tire replacement of the same tire and had to change air pressure]

Of course, in hind sight, I now understand the happening.

Didn't have all this modern Tech back in the late 60's and early 70's did we Larry. We night have been real dangerous if we had... even a weather station!
BTY: I started tracking some weather after I got my pilot's license in 1969. Before that I never knew what Air Density was.

I have been fighting this same MT tire issue/ inconsistency for over a year with a bracket car I mess with. Worked on the front end thinking it was about no pitch rotation hitting the tire, then shocks front and back, leave RPM, ladder bars, and even loaded the trunk with 80lbs. of weight!
Took your suggestion and went to the track last night and dropped the pressure from 11.5-12 psi to 8.5 psi and 60’ are back with in .005 for five runs.
Thanks

Jim,

in other discussions, it has been suggested that a running production changed occurred with "something" about that tire. [no body knows, just suggested]

Like you posted, I have experience with the tire not just on my S-10 but other packages.

The past experience handicapped me from testing lower air pressure. Yet, can't argue with what works.

A bit more feedback, after three frustrating outings I walked to the starting line and watched the tires of other cars with similar weight and performance. The cars that were dead hooking had a pronounced sidewall wrinkle. Then watching my truck video it had none to very slight wrinkle.

Back at my parking spot the racer next to me had the same tire in a similar package. He was running 8 pounds.

Go figger.

I could have jumped in here a little sooner on this subject.
I run with the Pro Stick group in the Mid Atlantic area. The 3074ST tire is run by well over half the cars in the group.
I remember most guys would run 10- 12 lbs or more in those tires with good results. Usually adding air would make them work better. Then at the beginning of last year, the guys started to complain the tires weren't working. So they started playing with the air pressure and noticed they now work better at lower (7.5-9lb) of air pressure. A phone call to M/T confirmed that they did make a change in construction and we were told this tire was 'using Pro Stock technology' and it uses less air to work properly.

This is the story I got, true or false. I do know these tires work better at a lower air pressure than years past.

Do those MT Tire grow much?
I am looking at the MT 3073W 31.25/12.2-15W
to replace the 14.5 X 30.5 Goodyears that I had on My SS/DS.
I need a little taller tire, but can not go too tall due to wheel well issues.
The GY's were 96.25" roll out these MT are 98"
The GY's were an old Comp tire ( I think they were 1702 or 1902) with stiff side walls that is discontinued.. It worked
The MT's have the L-8 compound that is toward the soft side.
What do you guys think.
Anyone got any input on this tire?
The only other tire I have found in the roll out and size that might work is the Phoenix 13.0/31.0-15
13.4 tread and 96 roll out...Will take a small gear change
