Find a 66-67 rear, shorter that the 68-70. Doesn't it have to be the same back plate to back plate measurement as the 8-1/4 or whatever was in it?Gotta put axles-spool in anyway, cut it to the right length.

It's a 318 4bbl. N/SA. also toying with the idea of building the 8.25 rear. Just not sure if it will hold up over time. My gut feeling is to go with the 8.75, just a little more hassle to locate the best choice housing and modify it to fit.

Only if you're using the same wheels and tires, which you're not.

We run a N/SA aspen.......We have broken several 8 3/4 rears.
8 1/4 is weaker and murder to find gears for low than 4.5.

. Probably a 4.88. Unless GTX John has a better suggestion. The car is ready to run except for the rear end and springs. Thanks, Craig.

Post Re: Chrysler 8.75 for Aspen/Volare

I would have thought 5.13 for the short stroke 318 and 4.86 for a 360. But the higher the ratio, the weaker the smaller teeth are. 4.86 worked well for my crate 360. I was wondering at what point weight-wise one would consider going up a step. I'm still working on a Aspen wagon for J at almost 3,800 lbs!

The Dana 60 suggestion is a good one. Weight is hard on 8 3/4's and they're not as easy to check the teeth on.

There was a fast Mirada that ran an 8 1/4" rear for a long time. But I don't know any more details.

Well that settles it, the 8.25 is out! You have years of experience with this particular combo and I take your word as "gospel" in this matter! Thanks for chiming in John. Craig
