My 6AL is mounted exactly where you are suggesting. The coil is mounted to the firewall in the engine bay. No issues.

Thanks for everyone's input. Have been looking at mounting it on the delete panel, where the heater box was, under the dash. It's pretty clean under there now that so much has been removed, so it should be out of sight and still easy access if needed. Hope to get that done over the weekend...

maybe mount it on a panel with Dzus fasteners so that it is easy removal---also when you bolt the MSD to the plate perhaps use rubber insulators to isolate vibrations from the unit---FED 387

This ones the 6AL that comes with the rubber insulators. Not sure what else I can do or use to help dampen any vibration with it yet, but i'm open to suggestions. I do have some 1/4-1/2 inch rubber patches, roughly 10-12 inches long laying around somewhere I may try to incorporate as well.

These units have indicator lights to let you know if they are firing correctly. I like having mine (version 8) in sight from the drivers seat and accessible for changing the rpm settings either by chips or dials. My distributor advance is locked out. I have one of the MSD Starter Saver boxes mounted to the backside of my glove box door. I can drop the door and see what it's up too, also.
But then I'm a hard core tinkerer...
