Let me add that it was done by the rules so be it

You have to enter a points meet, fill out the tech card and have the car pass tech to get a grade point. Don't have to participate, just pass tech.

Always been that was as far as I know. Once you pass tech, you get the grading point

I’ve seen someone rent a PT cruiser and tech it in to get a grade point

Those days have pretty much passed because there isn't much on the rental lots anymore that are in the guide in a FWD version. There are plenty of cars on rental lots now that are in the guide, but they are all generally RWD and it would require a driveshaft loop to pass tech.

I had to borrow a beater from the nephew of a lady I work with. I even won a round in it.
