Re: 1966 327/275 cyl head cc
461 heads are only legal on pre-67 cars. That narrows their applicability. 462 heads are legal all the way back to '62 327's. They came out in '67 and 68. The 041 head came out in 69 and 70 only. There were probably more of those made than 462's. It's legal to use the 041 head on '62 on up 327's in place of the 461-462 head.
As with anything else, condition dictates value. A set of castings that have never been apart are definitely worth more than a head the has gone to too many parts store back room valve jobs. Also, some back yard port jobs rendered a lot of heads useless in their aftermath as far as their future legality.
A very nice set of 462 or 041 heads could be worth up to $350-400, that is one with original guides, valve seats, deck surfaces, no overheat damage, and untouched ports. That gives a good cylinder head guy a good place to start. The worn out stuff could go to those building a bracket car or a cruise night special rather than a legal car. It would seem like a waste to sell very nice original castings to somebody to use to go ruckety-rump through the drive ins with.
One thing about heads, blocks, and intakes, all this stuff made prior to the '70 model year, when many of us were in high school, is all 50 years old now. Seems hard to believe, but it's true. When we were in school and all this stuff came out new, a 50 year old car was a Model T.
Used cores that are serviceable should be worth around $100 on up.
