NHRA 2020 Rule Amendment SS Intakes???

It seems clearly apparent who NHRA is focused on with this arbitrary change to one of the longest standing tenants of Super Stock eliminator racing. "Any intake manifold permitted provided unit is of the same configuration as original for carburetor used and will fit under original factory-produced, installed hood" has been one of the basic corner stones of Super Stock Rules since inception of the eliminator, dating to the early/mid-1970's. I'm just guessing but my money says they (NHRA) will expect the affected racers to be grateful that they "only" decided to make this change after almost 48 years of careful consideration.

As it was just explained to me, the new rule applies to those who have an angled spacer plate being used to replace material that has been cut off at an angle on the intake side of the head. They will also be looking for the OEM angle between the intake side of the head and the block side of the head. That is what the +/- 2 degree allowance is about.

" External modifications prohibited except for the following, intake side of head may be +/- 2 degrees from OEM angle between combustion chamber surface to intake flange surface, may not be cut into any part of valve-cover fastener holes (except for SS/AH). Intake manifold fastener holes must remain unaltered in their original location. Only OEM intake fastener holes are permitted, any additional fastener holes are prohibited. Spacer plates between intake manifold and cylinder head prohibited. Valve-cover fastener holes must remain unaltered and in their original location."

So, does the angle rule get exempted for the SS/AH cars, or is that just for the "valve-cover fastener holes"? It's not entirely clear to me for those cars. Since it is one long, run-on sentence, the exemption would seem to apply to the whole sentence and SS/AH.

I maybe wrong but haven't the big block Mopar stocker guys been doing this since the Edelbrock head was allowed?

Okay... I haven't seen the rule, as written, but I don't see the problem then.
Everyone knows what the intake face angle should be on all the popular combinations.
That angle should be what's allowed. That, and the v.c. bolt hole limit.
The spacers shouldn't have anything to do with this.
Someone could change the head angle, then build a custom manifold to match it, if it were allowed.

Also, I believe some of the spacers would have to use countersunk bolts into the head, and then they would be covered up by the manifold pattern. So, no, you couldn't just weld the spacers to the manifold.

*Edit : I just read post # 12. I assume this was lifted from the new rule book.. Is this under intakes or heads?
This , too me , looks like NO adapters at all, in S/S.
I guess the saving grace here is that not too much of y'all's money could be going to their lawyers. What a bunch of contradictory gibberish.

I didn't realize sheet metal intakes were allowed in SS. SS and GT mention "any manifold..." but "sheet metal allowed" isn't mentioned until the Modified section. Modified cars have one foot in Comp and one in SS.
