NHRA could cure this if they wanted to by making national opens a series so that you have to participate all in your division to get the points and if you miss one you get no points. National opens are races just to keep the athusiium up in the categories between division races. If the round wins don't count for the national championship, why should their participants points count to national events?
I for one will only race the close to me division races since you get no reward for supporting the series. With 6 grade points all the national events should be open to you, instead, you get a kick in the teeth. I commend the racers with 8 points or better, it's the NHRA making us squabble with each other over on how to get points not the racers. Casey
Division 2 has a series for the Open Series. Best 5 of 7. Top 5 get recognized at the Banquet. Pretty cool deal. |

Chip I understand that, but here again it's 1/8 mile racing, not conducive to a 4 speed car. Also another 8k miles to go to them. Just saying.

Mr. Wahl,
I haven't raced since 2007, but I try to keep up. In following this discussion about grade points I have a couple of questions. What is a National Open? Is it in addition to the Division races? And are they different than a "Regional' event. Do they all count for 'grade points'? Thank you, Ray |

The problem with puppies is there young and don’t know any better
Old dogs are set in there ways and it’s difficult to get them to change there behavior Grade points are now needed and a lot of them. So to you old dogs get with the program Or be left on the porch. And wonder why Your not racing

A National Open is a race normally placed at the end of the Divisional season in any given Division. Run the same way a Divisional is done, but sort of a wild card race open to obtaining a grade point for anyone from any Division.D2 and D1 used to have one or two every year at Bradenton, Orlando or Gainesville. D2 stopped doing this several years ago for some reason. Jim .
