Interesting. Just for my own understanding why wouldn't the 190hp or 235 hp 400 engines be good as a combination? Is it because they, if I'm reading the NHRA classification correctly, have been factored to 310hp and 320hp respectively. Is the low compression that much of a hindrance? What about the 1975 360 190hp? Good combination even if its been factored to 276hp?

The 400 in our 74 Ply. Sat. is 294 iron 296 Aluminum = same engine at 310 or 320 - You would not stand a chance against us.
The 360 / 190 if a four barrel would be OK. The 318 to be a four barrel has to be 78 up.
