This photo appeared at the top of the page in the photo gallery section this morning. Mike Delahanty racing a Neon at the 2003 Mopar nationals. Not a stocker but maybe he could chime in this thread.

Aaaaaaaah, I miss the "good-old-days" on ClassRacer when all we did was argue about why my _________ (fill in the blank) is better than your __________ (fill in the blank).*

*I'm talking about cars here.

I'm asking for a little advice about running a Neon. I'm looking at a couple cars. 2004 SXT, 132 HP, auto, weight break puts it close to upper limit of CF/S. Also, 2003 R/T, 150 HP, 5-speed manual, weight break puts it close to upper limit of BF/S. Each one could move down one class with a little weight added.
I'm thinking the 2004 SXT would be a better choice because of it's lower index. Yes, no, maybe, maybe not???

Unless a real Neon guy will chime in here, my advice would be to buy the book.
The 04 SXT in D would probably be the better car but the R/T would be more challenging and more fun. I don't know how the 5 speed transaxle will hold up. Maybe Yak has some experience with them?

The 5-speed will take more abuse for sure as opposed to the automatic. Remember all the SRT cars were 5-speeds...they handled a fair amount of abuse even with upgraded engines. Half shafts were the only issues I've ever heard of from people who were racing them. I don't think you would have any half shaft issues with an NA stocker.

This Mopar went 150 MPH for 4 hours using NO fuel. A Neon would have blown to Texas. Pole shed 0, Laura 1...... Lemon Phish
