Yeah, that Bird has run strong for a long time. Decided to check the 2004 Indy Stock Q-list. Don Holmes was #13. Only K/SA car quicker was Bob Mulry's '74 Formy. There were quite a few strong running Pontiacs on that list.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCStory.asp?ID=2312 Don was #4, in '05. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop Wonder how many competitive Pontiac powered Stock & SS cars Bob has built & sold ? He's another one of my Pontiac heroes ! ![]() Got another Bird question for ya'll. I'm sure some of ya'll remember the white '77 Bird that Tibor Kadar drove, a few years back. I've read that he was #2 in Stock points in 2006, IIRC. I read that the car was powered by a 350 Pontiac engine, back then. I have another pic of it, with a div 7 number on it, which I have labeled as 2010, still being driven by Kibor. Well, if my info is correct, Tommy Pettigrew has now owned the car for a few years. I've been posting it as still being a Pontiac powered '77 Bird. But, I just read the Stock pre-entry list for Indy. There is a car listed with the name Thomas Pettigrew. The listing says the car is a '78 model & is Chevy 350 powered. https://www.nhraeventreg.com/ListEve...II1&cc=8&rn=17 Since the car is easily converted to a '78 model, & a 350 Chevy engine is legal for a '78 Bird, I'm thinkin he may have switched the Bird over to Chevy power. SO, anybody here know Tommy Pettigrew & the car well enuff to know what year & engine he's now claiming ? ![]() I hate to post bad info, as I'm sure most others do. And since I'm not makin the circuit, I have to sometimes ask active racers for info about certain cars. So, I'm askin for help with which engine is being run in this car. Thanks ! ![]() Last edited by oldskool; 08-23-2021 at 10:37 PM. |

" 350 Chevy ,…with HELP from Monte Howard..."
Thanks for that info ! But, since I'm a Pontiac guy, I hate to hear it. I'd prefer he just buy a Chevy body, to put his Chevy engine in & sell the Bird to someone who will run it with Pontiac power. There seems to ALWAYS be a huge supply of used Chevy Stockers for sale, both rollers & turn-key. There are so few Pontiac powered Stockers still running, it's seems a shame to run it with a Chevy engine. I'd keep it all Pontiac, or sell it to somebody who would. But, it ain't my car or money. So, I don't get a say in it. ![]() |
