Hopefully the Mopar big blocks 6 pack combos can get an HP break so we can keep up with the others.
The cars have to weigh almost 4000 lbs Trying to run with cars that make the same power that weigh 3400 lbs. It's now like taking a knife gun fight. |

So how does the AMA car weight work? I looked at 1970 Plymouth 340 Duster AMA specs. It shows shipping weight at 3105lbs and curb weight at 3269lbs. I get an average of 3187lbs and NHRA shows the shipping weight at 3186lbs. Is that the method or just lucky on one?

I was told shipping weight. All the curb weights are the same on the AMA Sheets for a 70 Cuda, 340, 383, 440, and Hemi. I wonder how NHRA verified the weight of one Cuda with the 340 to the weight of 426 Hemi Cuda?

As Dwight and I explained earlier, the shipping weight was sort of a "Flat Rate" measurement for shipping purposes, that did not take into account the options of the car, just enough gas to move the car around, no passengers, and without cargo. The OEM's did away with shipping weights many years ago and kept the curb weights, which accounts for a car with all fluids, full tank, and standard equipment for the specific model. It is similar to the current curb weight narrative Ford uses for their products and what they weight they recommend for shipping considerations. https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos...of-my-vehicle/ |

My question is what prompted the review and adjustments? How often is it done?
I don't recall it happening when I raced in the seventies and eighties. |
