Asisde from spinning the starter faster what is the reasoning/purpose for using a 16v on a car with minimal electrical useage? Is it for powering the ignition when not charging with an alternator?

I now have several years of experience with 16-volt systems. I do not see any advantage to the 16-volt battery, and I have returned to a 12 volt with alternator. I now think that overall, the 12 volt has the most advantages.

I put one in my stocker last year. Fuel pump works better, with the fan and water pump running I can cool my car in about half the time that I used to, maybe less than that.

I personally prefer the 16V. I also agree with SS3011 on how fast the 16V charge.

I use a 12v with an East Coast mini alternator, it's an Optima red top battery. Weighs 46 lbs had it for 7 years and counting with zero issues. Cooling? I run a large aluminum radiator and big fan and CSR water pump and never have to let the fan run when back in the pits or after a run. I also use an Anti Gravity lithium which weighs 3 1/2 lbs when I want to get some weight off the nose. I can adjust the valves with the little one and spin it over to fog it or start over and over. It charges in minutes. No issues with either battery.

When I run A/SA with my car I have to take a lot of weight out of the rear. I use the light weight 16 volt 9 lb battery's BP
