It CAN be harder to GAIN HP with blueprinting and trick rings. Much of that is or can be built in to the newer stuff. There is still much to be gained with finishing the job, and various things such as camshafts. However, for example, when the 427 NA engine came out, a friend had one, and straight out of the car, no work done, first pull on the dyno, it made nearly 100 more HP than an old L-72 based Stock Eliminator engine that was competitive. They were rated the same. Exactly the same. They were literally in the same class. Yes, they eventually moved them to their own classes. But first they tried to beat us to death with them for a while. It cost the class several well established good racers who had not intended to quit. But quit they did.
