Even if this new collaboration is still together after this season, it won’t ever be competition to the NHRA, especially if you live in an area where the IHRA doesn't have a track, a presence.

Isn't that the point of the collab? WDRA has tracks all over the place, they outnumber IHRA 2-1 at least. I reckon this will mean WDRA oversees the local bracket stuff while IHRA gets permission to host National events and pro-ams at WDRA sanctioned tracks.

They don't get permission to host pro-ams at WDRA facilities? If that's the case, I'm with you. The partnership makes no sense.

I only know of four in the NHRA D1 area. Empire, Beaver Springs, US 13 and MIR

I don't think Empire has ever been NHRA. They seem to be neither IHRA or NHRA over the last couple years. I do hear rumors that Empire is considering IHRA. We will see. Ray

I?ve never raced at Empire, just no reason too but I have raced at the otter tracks and would never put either one of my cars on the track at Beaver.

I guess I didn't word it right, the 4 tracks I mentioned are the only four in the NHRA D1 area that are either IHRA or WDRA. Empire looks like a nice track, but yes, they've always been IHRA.

I can tell you that talking to Dave he did make a few trips to Empire to try to get them to switch over to NHRA but, I think with it being a small local track (I mean it makes Numidia look congested with the amount of Farmland that surrounds the track) the cost factor to switch associations and the racers weren't happy with the increase costs that they didn't want to take the leap, the track would be great to host a D1 race as it's big enough for Alky, it used to host a IHRA National Event back in the Day.
