From what I've seen, it is typically the ready line, though I think I've seen it allowed in the burnout box before doing a burnout.

At a points meet, national, or sportsnational, you typically know what your competition has been running during the event. the exception being some of the folks that like to qualify around the bottom of the ladder.
Unless you have one of them first round, then even that doesn't matter. I am with Nitro Joe on this as it should only affect people racing with a box.

It should'nt matter unless you have a delay box and are crossing over.

How about a little consideration for the people in the tower who have to enter the dial in the computor.

At every sanctioned event (NHRA/IHRA), there is a red or yellow line at the demarcation point from the staging lanes to the burnout area, which once passed, the dial on the car is official (in the computer) and displayed on the pre-run digital boards and/or finish line marquee. The competitor views the ET displayed and implies consent by staging the car, or appealing to the official starter for a change if an error exists.
