From what i read the rig was stolen from a motel. They were headed from NJ to the Atlanta race as you mentioned, went to a motel at around 2 am and the driver/crew guy went outside at 6am and it was gone. I don't know the name of the motel.
Hopefully guys will instal Lo Jack type systems on their rigs or cars, and disable the tow vehicle in a manner where it can't be driven away. Seems like in the past couple of years race rig thefts have been occuring more and more. |

Jeff, yes he was at a motel in Gaffiney SC just off I-85. He was on his way with Ralph to our NMCA race in Commerce. They also tried to get Ralph's rig too, but failed because he had his trailer legs down and locked. I talked to Joey and his wife at the track, and as you can imagine, they were killed. He had just put a fresh engine in it I understand. If anyone can help in any way, please do. The sad thing, as soon as they opened the trailer and found it was not a Camaro or Mustang, it will most likely be destroyed as it is so odd stuff can be traced.
Thanks for listening. Jim Netherland 2007 NMCA NSS World Champion |

That is a good statement. Thieves operate in their comfort zone, search locally.
Years ago a friends of mine shop was broken into and thieves stole almost all of their engine components heads, blocks, intakes rods pistons, etc.. What they did was call all speed equipment dealers, machine shops, racers, auto parts stores stores, etc. they could think of within a 50 mile radius and left a contact number if anyone had info. The word got spread around the racing community very well just by word of mouth. A machine shop about 30 miles north of their shop called saying a guy was trying to sell cylinder heads and a crank. They got the police involved and set up a buy and nailed the thief. It turned out the miserable slug lived less than a 1/4 mile from their shop. They got almost everything back. It's worth the effort.

Has anybody sent this info to Comp plus and Drag racing online. They will almost always post it for FREE. It might be a little late but I know at least one person has been caught for a simular offence thru their website postings.
