I went through basically the same thing when I had Richmond 4.10s put in my 12-bolt: Richmond said to use a GL-6 rated gear lube for superior film strength, but I couldn't find any other than Richmond's own lube. I looked into it, and back then the story was that the GL-6 spec was never fully adopted by the API. Now if you do an internet search, it looks like it has been declared inactive. Either way, it's going to be hard to find a gear lube that says GL-6 anywhere on the label (unless it's been repackaged for a gear manufacturer). For what it's worth, I believe I broke in my gears with Valvoline DuraBlend 80W90 and then switched to RP 85W140. I haven't looked at the gears since then, but everything seems OK.
