In the interest of fair reporting I have to say that we had the ring and pinions done in all 3 of our cars and the looked great for awahile but then they all had to be replaced. We had to replace the gears in both camaros @ Reading. The problem seems to be that gears will not hold enough fluid(especially synthetic) to cushion the gears from the violent life of 3400+ rpm launches with 3000+ lb cars. All our cars use 12 bolt chev. The Camaros 5:86 the Olds 6:00. We have gone away from the micronite with the rear gears but use it on other parts. We also have gone away from any syn. gear lube with no further failures.

Tim: I'd sure like a shot at doing a ring and pinion for you! I'll bet you'll have a different taste in your mouth. I'm know a little about Mikronite, but I know a lot about Rem and Cryogenic Processing. Unlike many polishing processes, Rem ISF retains enough "peeks and valleys" to hold enough lube to reduce friction and heat. There's not a Pro Stocker out there that isn't using Cryo'd and Rem'd Rear end Gears. Also, there's an advantage to Cryo'ing the Bearings and Races. ( Timken Bearings Research has done much testing with unbelievable results.) Nascar Cup Cars report 10 - 20 degree drop in fluid temp with Cryo'd and Rem'd Rears. This reduction in heat is because of less friction, ie; More HP to the rear wheels.
My 3500lb stocker was getting 40-50 - 10.20et - runs before cracking. Now I get around 120 runs, and I take them out and sell 'em. Plus, the car's just faster. There's a lot of other parts that can benefit. Call me. I'd be glad to hook you up with some off my customers testimonals. You're probably racing against them! It's not Top Secret, but It's becoming a lot of guys Secret Weapon. There's one catch, You've gotta have the right equipment, and it has to be done correctly. |
