Quick followup. My sons friend took the firebird to a dealer. They replaced the Master, slave and reservoir with all new and still no full disengagement. Still think the new disc might be too thick. A Racer/friend at Valdosta this weekend said he has put 1 or 2 3/8 washers between the slave rod and fork to tighten up the throwout bearing and solved this problem a few times. Don't know if we will get to try this since it is still st the dealership.
