Disappointment,,,,,,,,
Going to the Plymouth Dealer, only to be told, no 440 Engine is available in the 1968 Road Runner. Only the 383, and a 'Special Order' 426 Street Hemi. And 'No Bucket Seats'. |

On the 1968 Plymouth Road runner 383/335 HP -----
1968 was 'not' a good year at the Drag Strip. In 'E/S' the Road Runner could not outrun the 68' Mopar 340 A-Bodies or 68' Oldsmobile Cutlass 350/325 HP. And in 'E/SA' again it was the 68' 340 A-Bodies, or the 67' and 68' Camaro 'convertibles' with the 396/325 HP combinations. Last edited by Paul Ceasrine; 04-10-2013 at 08:16 AM. |

Felix,
The 1968 '383 Road Runner was not really designed to be a 'dominant' force in E/S or E/SA for 1968. But, if you purchased the 'Package Stock Performance Kit', and installed a set of 3.91 Gears, you could get the '383/335 HP' to run 13.80's @ 102 MPH. That kit was not 'legal' for NHRA Stock Class though. In AHRA, you could be classed in AHRA 'Formula 6' B/S or B/SA.......'FS6' B/S or B/SA They allowed any size lift Hydraulic Camshaft and a Holley Carburetor. Frankie,
In the later production run of the 1968 Road Runner, the under-hood 'Air Induction System' was available for both the 383 and 426 Street Hemi. Very few Road Runners have had that 'option' installed, as most of the Dealerships never updated their end of year 'Sales Literature'. Option Cost $55.30 ![]() Last edited by Paul Ceasrine; 06-09-2013 at 03:39 PM. |
