My memories of Cal were his quiet manner and his wit, he always wore a different hat at every race that we saw him at and there was always something political with a humorous twist and very right on point. Good man,he will be missed. Our sincere condolances to his family.

We are saddened to hear of Cal's passing. We feel very fortunate to have been able to spend some time with Cal away from racing having a meal and discussing a broad scope of topics. I will miss that a lot.
You will go a long way in life before you meet nicer people than Cal and his family. Cal only came west a few times, but meeting the big man was a treat.
only a fellow 283 wagon racer could really appreciate how fast he was with 4000 lbs & a powerglide, not to mention the lil ole 4gc in the air he usually ran in... and he NEVER got to use the bogus 459 327 intake! hope the family has the same peace as cal now has jack mccarthy

I know this is a bit tardy, but I did not know Cal had passed until I heard Bob Frey mention it during yesterday's Sportsman show from Seattle. Rest in peace old friend, now you and Conrad are together again.
I ran into Cal in 2007 or 2008 and he filled me in about Conrad. I went to high school with Conrad, and he was one of the influences that got me started into drag racing. Cal mentioned that he had quit racing regularly after Conrad died, but had come out to the track for a combo race and mostly to see old friends. I'm guessing that must have been one of his last races, I'm glad I got to spend some time hanging out with him. Regards, Michael Pliska
