The truth is they will just suck the money out until it's gone and then leave . The problem I have with this is if they don't own NHRA why can't they be stopped ? Who is the owner ?

All
Its funny to some, but a vote to quit going, is a real vote. I quit without sending a letter or complaining. It just seemed like the thing to do. It also seemed like the organization was just plain screwing the racers, raising the costs, lowering the return available, messing with extra charges, etc.. Around 2003, I was in the lanes at the Indy divisional, at 10PM, on a saturday night, waiting for one time run. It occured to me that I could have used the 500 dollars or so spent on the event, to board a southwest plane, get a room on the beach, and actually get 500 worth of fun for the money. So the car went up for sale, and that plan went into effect. Now I don't even give them a dime a year (except for going to some divisionals to watch my pals). I have people asking me if I am getting the racing bug again. I usually say, "the pain doesn't equal the gain". Or "not enough to start the pointless spending again". Some people can't seem to find another life outside of racing, and I understand. Letting the clutch out is hard to replace, but a good roller coaster isn't too bad. send your letter and sign my name on it, I will agree with Pat |

I have been racing at NHRA events for over 20 years and I have watched NHRA transform from a sanctioning body that represented the racers (barely) into a sanctioning body thats main objective now is to compete with NASCAR for specator appeal. There was a driver from division 4, I forget his name, anyone remember? That wanted to organize all of the sportsman racers, so we would have some strength against NHRA. NHRA squashed that whole process and we ended up loosing our second crew passes that used to come free with National Event entries. I love the optimistic attitude that letter writing will fix everything that is wrong with NHRA, I just wish that it was accurate. I have been around long enough to see that changes will be made, when NHRA wants them to be made. Not before. If the sportsman racers go away, NHRA will just consolidate more classes, like they did to get rid of Modified Eliminator in the 80's. I hope you prove me wrong and the letter writing campaign is a huge success!

If the Sportsman racer goes away, who will NHRA get to pay for the insurance? Thats the question they need to answer.

Congratulations on the R/U at Vegas. Dont know about the cry baby stuff. That may be a little harsh. I think we have all seen changes at NHRA that we wish were not made. Everyone has an opinion and not everyone will ever agree on anything. However, I think we all love drag racing, or we would not be spending our time writing comments on this site.
