If you would bother looking it up, you'd find they make a matching head for ford, chevy, and mopar. That is if you would bother looking it up.

Dick, you are 100% correct. When I made that move and sold my SS/A B Corvette it was the best thing I ever did and never looked back. The first time out with the new car at a National Event in Houston netted a #6 qualifying spot (with a single carb and a 4 speed) at 8.86 154 which at the time, was the quickest and fastest SS car in history. (SS/AM) I've tried to tell the racers on this forum that's the best thing they could do but had few takers. You and I know that people tend to find a "comfort zone" and stay there. They will whine and cry like 10 year old school girls about their suffering and the problems they face but won't do anything about it. Fact: Most of the problems and complaints faced by the traditional S and SS racers are coming from people and organizations they cannot control and it's not gonna stop. Fact: You have to take a reactive position. If those problems really bother you that much... MOVE to a place where those problems don't exist... in this case, SS Modified or Comp. Fact: The new cars are here to stay and the older ones are on a sinking ship. It's just a matter of time. At bare minimum, it's foolish to continue pumping money into an older car. If you have to, sell all of your older stuff - sit out a year or two and build a new car. If you are unable to face this reality and make the changes necessary so you can become a more content, fulfilled racer in this traveling circus, you have no one to blame but yourself.... cause it ain't gonna change.

".......if you have to, SELL your older stuff...."
Not quite the market for "stuff" outdated by mis-classed vehicles; pretty cavalier attitude for someone who sold out in a different market |

I've been pondering this question myself, what will be the breaking point for the racers in stock or super stock to just cause them to switch to modified eliminator if they brought it back...would it be the rules, the entrance fees & payouts or just the fact that NHRA keeps squeezing you.

Guys if you could start by using your current chassis with the spec head motor at the same wts wouldnt that be a good start?
Randall, How about the market for 57 or 56 chevy out there? a current drive train and tires and remove cage could sell for street or Mecum. Yes its work and money but it might be worth a look. Cure, Get out of classes where new cars can compete or just suffer another year.. Modified can work...for everyone better than Fake HP/lb. |

Guys, I have to admit that class racing is probably on it's last death throes, but I like to dream. Anyone who thinks we're ol;d fashioned, and not with the times, needs to only look at the 76, to 81 mod vids to see the crowd did not leave the fence, and go buy a hot dog when modified came up. Now, when the pros are done, you couldn't sell a hot dog in the stands. What the hell was NHRA thinking? And sorry young guys, the new stuff has not the following we had, so I'll continue to live in the past, and watch spectators leave by the droves. Drag racing, as a whole, is dying. None of what we talk about will ever happen, but still, it's a blast to think of the possibilities.
