On the subject of fox bodys . Just wondering why the 1988 thunderbird turbo coupe is not listed in superstock guide , just as the 302 car ? Only the 1986 turbo couple is listed and thats SS/P car . Can I turn my 1988 stocker t-bird turbocouple into a superstock GT car or not because of the grill and hood ? If so what options are there for motors from old school to new ? Ken R .

Never noticed that before Ken.
You're right, the 85-86 TC is the only one eligible for SS.
The body on the 87-88 is different from the 83-86 so just changing the hood and nose won't make it look like an '86.

The only GT class you can run with your TC is IHRA Stock GT.

I am also interested in building a Fox Body Stocker. I recently picked up a 1985 Mustang that had been used as a bracket car, less motor and trans. The car has a 6 point roll bar in it, battery already relocated tot he back, 5 gal. fuel cell, still has full stock dash, and most of the factory interior.

Where is the best place to start? I was thinking 302/auto package... car has a 4.30 gear in it already and a set of Centerline Convo Pros on it.

What would be the best engine/trans combo for this car I do have a bunch of 5.0 blocks and stuff floating around..

ken don't know if things have changed, but in the late 90's I ran my 88 tubocouple in SS-GT with the 460 motor 300hp. I won class with it several times and went thru the Barn at least 4 times I can remember.

The 85 Mustang 302 4 barrel in stick only, you could run an automatic 302 with the CFI fuel injection, but its a throttle body system, not aware of anybody using that setup. A 86 Mustang had multi port EFI, and was available with an automatic, but has a smaller throttle body a oddball, 1 year only cylinder heads and pistons. Even the 85 4 barrel heads are a 1 year only casting.

Scott Swill...You've got the Denysenkos right in your back yard (Chicago area). I'd say they're your closest contacts for info/insights on racing a Fox in Stock. Of course, here in this forum, John Hedenberg (Hi, John) in Jersey, Evan Smith down in Tampa, Lee Valentine, Ward Alston and several other cats race '79-'93 5.0 'Stangs, and I wouldn't imagine any of them "not" helping you out.

Good luck with your Stock Eliminator campaign, dude. Keep me posted on how you're doing!
